Directions to Ruidoso

Getting to Ruidoso is fairly easy no matter where you're coming from, but beware — you may not want to leave!  Quick and easy directions to Ruidoso, your favorite mountain getaway!

FROM ALBUQUERQUE (THE NORTH)

Travel south for about 80 miles on Interstate 25 until you reach Hwy. 380 (11 miles past Socorro... the sign says San Antonio & Carrizozo). Then go east on Hwy. 380 for about 73 miles, to Hwy. 37 (the turn-off is 8 miles past Carrizozo.... the sign says Nogal & Ruidoso). After veering right onto Hwy. 37, travel south on Hwy. 37 for about 14 miles until you reach Hwy. 48. Turn right and continue south on Hwy. 48 into Alto and then Ruidoso. Follow Hwy. 48 (also known as Mechem Drive) to Sudderth Drive and turn left onto Sudderth. You will soon hit downtown Ruidoso.

FROM EL PASO (THE SOUTH)

Travel north on Hwy. 54 to Tularosa, which is 12-13 miles past Alamogordo. In Tularosa, the road curves to the right/east and becomes Highway 70. Follow Hwy. 70 up into the mountains through the Mescalero Apache Reservation, right into Ruidoso. At the stop light, turn left onto Hwy. 48. This is Sudderth Drive and it will take you right into downtown Ruidoso.

FROM ROSWELL (THE EAST / TEXAS)

Take Hwy. 70 and travel directly west for approximately 70 miles, to Ruidoso. You will see the mountains and Sierra Blanca peak directly in front of you until you drop into the Hondo Valley, about half-way through the drive. Once you go through Ruidoso Downs, turn right onto Hwy. 48.This is Sudderth Drive and it will take you right into downtown Ruidoso.
