COVID-19 preparations have delayed the opening of Ski Apache, a winter favorite for visitors and locals alike located in the Sierra Blanca near Ruidoso. Typically scheduled to open on Thanksgiving, this year the ski basin is preparing to open on December 17, weather permitting.
Ski Apache assures guests that they are following CDC protocols and making adjustments to normal operations to keep everyone’s safety in mind. Masks will be required and temperatures will be checked upon entry. Groups are encouraged to stay with those who they arrived with, and visitors are asked to be mindful of social distancing.
Other notable changes include adjusting menus to support quick and efficient outdoor dining and keeping groups separate from each other on lifts and gondola carts, as Ski Apache will not be mixing people together on rides up the mountain. This will likely cause longer lines, but the ski basin will only be opening at 25% capacity, allowing 1,500 to 2,000 people to visit daily.
All guests are asked to take advantage of Ski Apache’s online reservation system to ensure they are able to enjoy the ski basin with new capacity limits. Season pass holders are also encouraged to make reservations online to ensure their party is accounted for in the capacity limits.
While food and drink services will only be available outdoors with updated, streamlined menus, skiers will still be able to access wash rooms on the mountain.
Season passes are on sale through November 29th online or by phone. Guests are reminded to stay up-to-date on changes and updates on Ski Apache’s website.
