White Mountain Wilderness Hiking Area

The White Mountain Wilderness Area just north of Ruidoso is known for its wonderful hikes. Be sure to take water with you, and if you come from a lower elevation, make sure you do a few walks around town to get acclimated before you attempt a more strenuous hike. The White Mountain Wilderness Area is managed by the Forest Service. Contact the Smokey Bear Ranger Station for more information about the Lincoln National Forest.
