Lincoln National Forest Reopened

Just in time for the upcoming holiday weekend, the Lincoln National Forest has reopened to the public as of 8:00 AM on Friday, June 24th.

According to the Village of Ruidoso website, “All three national forest districts received substantial rain over the past two weeks, which significantly lowered fire danger. More rain is forecasted over the coming weeks for the forest, which covers areas in southeastern New Mexico around Carrizozo, Capitan, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, and Carlsbad. Forest lands, roads, trails, recreation sites, and campgrounds will again be open to visitors.”

Update to Fire Restrictions

Due to significant rainfall, Ruidoso has also been moved to level 1 fire restrictions. Rain totals over the last month have increased moisture levels in the area to above-average levels for June, allowing the forest to be safely reopened. This allows the use of commercial fire pits (with a fire marshal permit), and outdoor cooking on all appliances. Non-commercial fire pits, campfires, and fireworks are NOT allowed within the village of Ruidoso unless specifically permitted by the fire marshal. Refer to Ruidoso Fire Department guidelines for more information.
