Winter Fun in Ruidoso

Everyone knows that Ruidoso is one of the best travel destinations for winter fun and gorgeous scenery. Do you know what the go-to activities are that will make your trip nothing short of magical? Read further for everything you need to know to have a blast in winter in Ruidoso.

Outdoor Winter Fun

For the adventurer, here are a few things to do outdoors that are sure to quench your need for a thrill!

Ski Apache. This place has everything typical of a mountain town and more. From snowboarding and skiing to ziplining, they will not disappoint.

Ruidoso Winter Park. Whether it snows or not, Ruidoso Winter Park is open during winter season. They have giant snow making machines to supply all the white fluffy goodness needed to tube down the slopes whether you want to go solo or get the whole family in one of their giant tubes! The snow machines work even better in the cold weather, so bring on the real stuff! They also have VIP Igloo rentals for a unique experience.

Grindstone Stables. They offer sleigh rides during the winter season that are sure to make for a magical night. Carriage rides through the town are also available if you want to stay closer to restaurants and shopping. If you want a little more adventure they offer horseback riding tours as well! All activities are available snow or shine!

Indoor Winter Fun

Some may want to enjoy the beauty of winter from a cozier view. Here are some indoor winter fun options for those with a need for relaxation and not-so-chilly thrills.

Inn of the Mountain Gods. This resort a few miles south of Ruidoso boasts live entertainment from well known music artists and incredible gaming at the casino! They even offer options for transportation to Ski Apache for their guests. The restaurants offer mouthwatering cuisine and breathtaking alpine scenery.

Sacred Grounds. One of Ruidoso’s favorite coffee and tea spots, Sacred Grounds holds live music and special events.  They have a gorgeous view of Rio Ruidoso river that you can enjoy while sipping your coffee on their back deck. In addition to coffee and tea, they also offer beer, wine and a recently updated dinner menu if that’s more up your alley!

Spencer Theater of the Performing Arts. Spencer Theater offers spectacular architecture, amazing performances and intimate seating.

Art Ruidoso Gallery. Last but not least, Art Ruidoso Gallery offers art workshops and group classes that are fun with a group of friends or to go to solo and make new friends with similar interest in art. They also showcase local artists who offer their pieces for sale in the gallery, as well as pitch in as instructors of some of the classes and workshops!

Relaxing Winter Fun

If you just need a break from reality to really reach your zen or you need a day of pampering after skiing, these are some of the best options for relaxation.

Blue Lotus Day Spa and Yoga. Blue Lotus offers everything from couples massages, to organic facials, to a yoga studio. Everything you need to relax your mind and body.

Buddha Yoga. A yoga studio aimed at any and every one. They have several classes to offer for the beginner as well as the avid yogi. This is a great idea to stretch you out if you went a little too hard on the slopes, too!

Sanctuary on the River. This place offers not only spa treatments such as massage and facial, but also a hair salon and cooking classes! Perfect for a full day retreat to arouse the senses.

If enjoying your favorite brew or finding a new favorite local wine is what you’re looking for, try one of these local favorites!

Noisy Water Winery. Noisy Water Winery offers a wide array of internationally award winning wines at two wonderful tasting rooms in Ruidoso. New Mexico born and raised (the owners and the grapes according to their facebook page!). Try out their wines at The Cellar Uncorked or the tasting room at the winery!

Tall Pines Beer and Wine Garden. This is a place everyone can get together and let loose! They have an indoor and outdoor space. They even have a couple of fire pits to keep you warm if it’s a little chilly outside!

Rio Grande Grill and Tap Room. This place is not only a cozy, rustic tap room, but also has a great food menu to accompany whatever you’re drinking! They have several local craft beers on tap that they even offer to-go. So, if you find one that you love you can take it home in a bottled 6-pack or 64 oz growler.

Exciting FYI! Everything on this list, excluding skiing/snowboarding of course, are NOT weather pending activities! So, you can plan them into your Ruidoso trip without the worry of whether we will have winter weather when you come down.
